The American Jewish Artists Club was founded in Chicago in 1926 and was named, "Around the Palette". Its founding members included Emil Armin, David Becker, Aaron Bohrod, Fritz Brod, Todos Geller, Samuel Greenberg, William S. Schwartz, Maurice Yochim and Louise Dunn Yochim.
The group met over the years in a spirit of camaraderie, sharing concepts and personal views in the world of art and its placement in society.
In 1940, at the outbreak of the Second World War, as a sign of solidarity with its brethren in Europe, the group became known as the American Jewish Art Club.
Later still, in the early 1990's, the members renamed the organization The American Jewish Artists Club in order to clarify that their artistic works were of varied content and personal style and not of any religious/ethnic subjects unless an artist chose to do so.
The Club has exhibited widely in the Chicago area in a multitude of galleries, synagogues, universities, community centers, museums, public government sites and institutions, as well as in international exhibitions and galleries. The works of its members can be found in private, national and international collections.
The AJAC holds quarterly meetings exploring relevant artistic issues at artists' homes, studios and in other appropriate sites.
